Each journal entry will be graded on a scale of 10 points. To get the full 10 points, your journal entry will include the following:
- Summary of 2-3 of the most important points from the readings for the week: What is the purpose of the reading? What does the author argue? How do they support their claims? What do they want us to learn from their writing? The summary for each reading should be 1-2 paragraphs. [4 points]
- Connection to the course material: Make at least one connection to the course– other readings, class discussions, in-class texts (e.g. documentaries we watch together). Here, I want to see that you are able to place the reading in relationship with our other work. [3 points]
- Connection to the world: Make at least one connection to something outside the classroom, such as your own experience and/or current events. [3 points]
To successfully meet these requirements, your journal entry will be about 2 pages long (500 words). Please make sure your journal is double-spaced, with 1 inch margins and 12 point font.
Each week, I will put up prompts (questions or directions) that will support your journal writing and remind you of these expectations.
